Help us test alternative mobile software!

The Mobifree Project: Invitation to Participate in a Pilot Test

The Mobifree project aims to develop and test alternatives to mobile software that align better with the values that many people prioritize. Would you and your organization be interested in participating in a pilot test?

Our team is working to understand the values that mobile software should uphold and to develop technology that reflects those values. This development builds on existing, effective technologies that we will adapt, including an operating system, an app store, cloud storage, and various communication apps.

Added Value for You and Your Organization

We are offering the opportunity to try out an open-source smartphone at no cost, and your feedback will be invaluable in enhancing its features. User experiences are central to the Mobifree project. We’re eager to learn how your preferences and considerations translate into mobile phone requirements. By providing feedback, you can help ensure that open-source alternatives meet your needs and values while remaining user-friendly. We therefore invite you and your organization to participate in this pilot.

Time Commitment

  • Pilot Test of the Murena Phone: 2 months (Starting February or March 2025). Each participating employee will receive a Murena phone with pre-installed apps and features for two months. Participants can use the phones for both work and personal use and help determine which aspects they wish to test.
  • Initial Workshop: At the start of the pilot, we will conduct a workshop (1.5 hours) to define the specific requirements we want to explore during the test.
  • Mid-Pilot Group Interview: We will hold a group interview halfway through the pilot to assess how well the phones meet the requirements and gather evaluations.
  • Feedback Focus Group: After the pilot, we will conduct a feedback focus group (2.5 hours, location: Waag Futurelab, Nieuwmarkt 4, Amsterdam, at your office, or online) along with a short online survey (15-30 minutes) about user experiences.

A maximum of 30 participants can join, but a smaller group (one or more employees) is also welcome to test our fully open-source smartphones.
